Papers, 1827-1873; (bulk 1856-1871).

Correspondence and other papers, largely of a business nature, regarding the iron works operated by Baird and his partner, Peter Small, at Manchester, Va. Products included water wheels, circular saws, spindles, castings, and gate fixtures. The papers are of interest for data on antebellum Southern manufacturing; only a few relate to the Civil War. Includes inquiries and orders for iron work, with occasional complaints, and records of the operation of the foundry after Baird'd death by James D. Craig, for the benefit of Baird's heirs.
